Recology San Bruno Green Waste Cart Reminder: Your yard waste is collected every other week. Use your green, 96-gallon container for yard waste only. Place grass clippings, leaves, and small branches in your green yard waste container.

Acceptable Green Waste Materials
Only place green waste materials into your green container!
Accepted Yard Waste
  • Grass clippings
  • Ice plant and succulents
  • Leaves
  • Tree and shrub prunings
  • Weeds
Important Green Waste Notes!
  • Do not put yard waste in plastic bags.
  • Yard waste must fit inside toter and lid must be closed.
  • Small branches should be cut into three-foot lengths or less.
  • Our trucks can pick up yard waste toters weighing up to 150 pounds. Toters filled to capacity with some materials can exceed the weight limit and will not be emptied.

Unacceptable Green Waste Materials
Please do not place the following materials into your green container!
Construction Debris
  • Concrete, rocks, sod, dirt, asphalt, lumber, plywood, particle board or other construction materials
Electronic / Universal Waste
  • Televisions, computers, cell phones, batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, mercury switches
Garbage
  • Plastic bags
  • Un-recyclable items
Household Hazardous Waste
  • Paints, solvents, motor oil, cleaners, corrosives, used syringes
Organic Material
  • Food scraps, animal feces or manure, bamboo, palm fronds, poison ivy, ashes, stumps, tree trunks, or painted trees, plywood or particle board
Recyclable Material
  • Recyclable glass, metal, paper and plastic

Free Compost Workshops

Composting Workshop Graphic Learn how to turn your kitchen food scraps and yard trimmings into a rich soil amendment that will help your garden thrive. Compost Workshops are held at the San Bruno Recreation Center in San Bruno City Park.

Workshops are free. Reservations are not necessary but encouraged so there is a way to contact participants in case a class is canceled. To reserve a space in a workshop or for more information, please call the City of San Bruno Recreation Department at 650-616-7180.
